GMC Posts Sales Gains in January

Fri, Feb 1 2013

DETROIT – GMC’s January retail sales were the highest in five years and grew 32 percent year over year, with every 2013 model contributing. Total sales, which include those sold to commercial fleets, were up 23 percent year over year.

“GMC entered the new year with the momentum of three consecutive years of sales growth, and credit is due to our dealers for getting 2013 off to a strong start,” said Brian Sweeney, vice president of GMC Sales and Service. “Vehicles like the Terrain and Acadia, which both attract half their owners from outside General Motors, are making customers take notice of the quality and capability GMC has to offer.”

Terrain had its best January ever, in both retail and total sales. The small SUV’s sales grew 52 percent year over year retail, and 51 percent total.

Production of the new 2013 Acadia midsize crossover continued to ramp up in January. Retail Acadia sales were up 17 percent while total sales grew 7 percent.

Sierra full-size pickup truck sales had their best January since 2008, in both retail and total sales. Year over year, they were up 38 percent and 35 percent respectively.

This morning, GMC launched Pro Grade Protection, which covers standard scheduled maintenance costs for two years or 24,000 miles – whichever comes first – for all 2013 GMC Sierra 1500s sold between Feb. 1 and Feb. 28, 2013.

Combined with the Sierra 1500’s five-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty and three-year/36,000-mile bumper to bumper warranty – whichever comes first – Pro Grade Protection delivers the best pickup coverage in the industry.

Just last month, Insure.com named Sierra 1500 as the “Best Vehicle for Preventing Passenger Injuries.” GMC as a brand took four of the top five spots on the list, with Yukon, Terrain, and Sierra 2500HD also represented.

GMC has manufactured trucks since 1902, and is one of the industry's healthiest brands.
