About GM: Dan Ammann
Dan Ammann was named president of General Motors in January 2014. Ammann is responsible for managing the company’s business operations around the world, the global Chevrolet and Cadillac brand organizations, global product planning, new business development and GM Financial.
Ammann was previously executive vice president and chief financial officer since April 2011 where he led a transformation of GM’s finance operations into a world-class organization. He also led the strategy to rebuild the company’s captive finance capability through the successful establishment and growth of GM Financial.
Ammann joined GM in April 2010 as vice president of finance and treasurer, where his first assignment was to manage GM’s initial public offering. He was appointed to the Opel Supervisory Board in November 2011 and was elected chairman in February 2014. He was appointed chairman of the board of Shanghai General Motors, GM's largest Chinese joint venture, in February 2014.
Ammann is a certified industry pool test driver at the Nürburgring Nordschleife racetrack in Germany.
Ammann is active in the community, serving as the United Way for Southeastern Michigan campaign chair for 2014-2015. He and his wife, Pernilla, will chair the 2015 College for Creative Studies’ 34th Annual Detroit International Wine Auction. In 2014, they chaired the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute’s 32nd Annual Dinner.
Before joining GM, Ammann was managing director and head of Industrial Investment Banking for Morgan Stanley, where he was instrumental in many high-profile assignments including advising GM during its 2009 restructuring.
A native of New Zealand, Ammann holds a bachelor of management studies (First Class Honours) from the University of Waikato in New Zealand.
