GM salaried employees are invited to join one of our many Employee Resource Groups. These employee-driven groups support retention and professional development and are actively engaged in promoting diversity initiatives in the community. Members of our Employee Resource Groups may also be called upon to provide insight to our product development, design or marketing teams to ensure we’re meeting the needs of consumers around the world.

The Affinity Group for Women (AGW) aims to assist women in managing their careers and professional development, while developing GM as a workplace of choice and creating leadership opportunities for women to excel.  AGW offers a mentoring program, leadership development seminars and regular networking opportunities. Charity involvement includes support of Stop Playing Small with Eleni Kelakos, Leaders and Launches with GM women executives and Lighthouse PATH, a Pontiac, MI charity, with regular events helping single moms and their families.

The Asian Indian Affinity Group (AIAG) serves as a link for GM employees from the Indian subcontinent countries, the company at large and the outside community. The organization helps to create greater awareness about its culture, beliefs and values by distributing educational tools and resources to GM employees and its dealer network. As a part of career development, AIAG arranges professional seminars by inviting internal and external speakers. Within the community, the group supports a variety of outreach events, including sponsorship of Michigan India Day each year. In the past, AIAG participated in the New York India Day Parade and supported national conventions of influential professional organizations. 

GM's Chinese Affinity Group (CAG) provides opportunities for cultural awareness activities and social and community interactions for all GM employees, and supports collaborative efforts among other affinity groups. CAG hopes to make a meaningful impact by crafting well established goals aligned with the business objectives and bottom line of the company. CAG invites all employees to its annual Chinese New Year celebration to come and share an evening of community entertainment and leadership visions with GM's global audience. This annual gala combines charity fundraising, community outreach and leadership interaction with the global GM community, and allows CAG to proudly share their expertise and interest in China.

The GM African Ancestry Network (GMAAN) is the affinity group for all African Ancestry employees globally. GMAAN is driven to be a resource to provide GM a competitive advantage by attracting, developing and retaining African Ancestry employees while connecting to communities. Members are encouraged to grow personally and professionally through various platforms, including a forum where they can communicate issues and acquire knowledge from GM executives, the industry and community leaders. Additional offerings include mentoring programs, quarterly professional development workshops, monthly formal and informal networking activities, product awareness ride and drives, and financial and member-support for numerous community organizations in southeast Michigan and beyond.

The goal of the Hispanic Initiative Team (HIT) is to make GM a workplace of choice for Hispanic and Latino communities by positioning themselves as a resource to the entire corporation, as well as its members. The group strives to be the face of GM in the Hispanic community. HIT offers a mentoring activity, and supports Hispanic Heritage Month and Cinco de Mayo events.

JumpStart (JS) is an organization designed to engage, develop and connect GM's newest talent at GM. With operations ranging globally from North America to Asia, JS provides opportunities for professional development, "workplace of choice" initiatives, marketing and community service. JS also fosters the retention of new hires in connecting new employees to one another, while providing a venue to create leadership experiences and promoting corporate citizenship. Each year, JumpStart's Anniversary Event draws hundreds of interns, co-ops, new hires and GM leadership for a day of education and fun, followed by networking and social activities. JumpStart also hosts a variety of professional development events including the Leadership Speaker Series, which take place at various GM locations.

GM PLUS (People Like US) is the employee resource group for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) employees and their allies. The group's vision is that all GM employees feel safe, respected, valued and supported in their workplace. LGBT and allied employees will work in an inclusive environment that will enable them to contribute fully to GM's business success. GM's support of the community includes sponsorship of the annual Out & Equal Workplace Advocates Summit and the Gay Men's Chorus of Washington Spring Affair Gala.

The goal of the Native American Cultural Network (NACN) is to educate, inform and create a greater awareness among GM employees, customers and the general public about Native American Indian culture beliefs and values. NACN supported the "Longest Walk 2" in 2008 by providing hybrid vehicles to transport elders as they visited Washington D.C., the American Indian Science and Engineering Society and multiple cultural "lunch and learns" including tracing Native American ancestry.

The Mid-East Southeast Asian Affinity Group (MESEA) strives to make GM the workplace of choice for people of the Middle East, North Africa, Southern Europe and South East Asia. For more than ten years, MESEA has been sponsoring the Arab American International Festival, a family-centered cultural celebration that draws people to Metro Detroit every summer. The group also supports "A World in Motion," where members serve as role models for students who may not have considered pursuing a career in the science or engineering fields. In addition, MESEA members have worked to eliminate offensive sign language that relates to their culture, and others have supported OnStar in its launch in the Gulf Shores.

People With Disabilities (PWD) promotes awareness of the abilities of those with disabilities. They serve as a resource to GM employees who are disabled or who care for a person with a disability by providing valuable input to the company relative to accessible design of our products and facilities.

The goal of GM's Veteran's Affinity Group (VAG) is to create positive, lasting relations with communities, union partners and veteran organizations. The group also strives to make GM a workplace of choice by recruiting talented military veterans as well as empowering and engaging current veteran and military employees. VAG supports a variety of programs and organizations each year including the Piquette Square Project, CSAH/American Legion Road to Recovery Conference, Michigan Paralyzed Veterans of America, Operation Stand Down, Fallen and Wounded Soldiers Fund and the VFW Annual Convention.

The Vietnamese Affinity Group (VIET) aims to provide GM employees with a means to connect with local Vietnamese communities, while enhancing employee leadership skills and heritage knowledge. VIET is also expanding their reach globally as GM develops operations in Vietnam, ultimately strengthening GM's presence in the Vietnamese community.
