- Chevrolet sold 7,863 vehicles across ASEAN - highest performance for 2013
- Thailand led sales performance with strong Sonic performances
- August was also the highest sales month in Thailand since Q1 2013
BANGKOK, THAILAND - Chevrolet posted sales of 7,863 vehicles across the ASEAN region in August, setting the record for the best sales month in the region for the year. Thailand was the best performing amongst major markets in the region, exceeding sales projection and recording its strongest sales month for the year since January 2013.
Chevrolet sold 5,881 vehicles in Thailand in August, 41 percent more than the previous month. The trendy Sonic was the star of the month, leading sales with a total of 2,366 units sold. The Colorado followed with 1,927 units. Other models that contributed to a healthy sales performance include the Captiva (679 units), Trailblazer (545 units), Cruze (212 units), Spin (130 units) and Aveo (22 units).
"We continued to record positive sales performances across the ASEAN region in August," said Mr. Gustavo Colossi, Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, Chevrolet Sales Thailand and GM Southeast Asia Operations.
"Thailand was particularly strong in August. It was also the highest sales month since January. This was quite remarkable, considering the super-competitive situation we are facing in the Thai market right now," Colossi added.
In addition to the strength of Chevrolet's products, especially the Sonic, Colossi also attributed Thailand's performance in August to the success of various innovative sales campaign like nationwide showroom events - 'Sonic Days' - that generated strong bookings for the Sonic. Chevrolet expects sales growth to continue, particularly for the Sonic, as the 1.6L variants hit the showrooms this month.
Major markets across the region also continued to post strong performances in August.
In Indonesia, the Spin continued to be the star of Chevrolet's product portfolio. Chevrolet sold 988 units of the Spin in August, bringing Indonesia's monthly total to 1,226 units. This represented a 277-percent increase over the same month in the previous year.
In the Philippines, Chevrolet sold 310 units - a 55-percent growth compared to the same month in 2012. The Trailblazer continued to be the model of choice amongst buyers in the Philippines, with a total of 140 units sold. Laos also returned an encouraging performance of 93 units sold, despite a slowdown in the industry pending expected regulation changes in September.
