Chevrolet Sales Steady in Southeast Asia in September

- Indonesia sales continues record-breaking climb with 338% YOY growth
- Philippines YOY growth reaches 76% - with Trailblazer leading the way
- Thailand meets sales targets – with a 26% increase in Colorado sales
BANGKOK, THAILAND - Chevrolet sold 7,478 vehicles across the ASEAN region in September, down slightly from August but showing a steady increase in market share in Indonesia, Thailand, and other regional markets.
Indonesia continues its strong market growth with 1,801 units sold – a 50 percent jump from August, and a 338 percent increase over the same period last year – making Q3 2013 the best performing quarter in Chevrolet Indonesia’s history (4,891 units sold in Q3 2013). The Indonesian-built Spin continues to be the new favourite with consumers, with 1,400 units sold in September – a 42 percent increase over August.
At the 2013 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS), Chevrolet bookings for new sales accounted for 3.3 percent of the total bookings at IIMS – with 59 percent booking going to the Spin. A great performance as the usual market share for the brand is around 0.5%. The Spin was also voted as one of the five Best Cars by FORWOT Automotive Journalists Forum at the 2013 IIMS.
In the Philippines, Chevrolet sold 362 units - a 76-percent growth compared to the same month in 2012. The Trailblazer continued to lead Chevrolet’s market growth as the SUV of choice in the Philippines, with a total of 165 units sold.
In addition to solid sales, Chevrolet Philippines also received recognition for three segment models. Chevrolet has been chosen by C! Magazine as a winner in its prestigious 9th annual C! Awards recognizing the Chevrolet Trailblazer, Orlando and Spin. The Trailblazer was recognized as the Best Mid-size SUV 7-Seater; the Chevrolet Orlando received the Best MPV Award; and the Chevrolet Spin has earned the Best Compact People Carrier Award.
"While sales were down slightly in September, we are very happy with the significant improvement in our market share throughout the region,” said Mr. Gustavo Colossi, Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, Chevrolet Sales Thailand and GM Southeast Asia Operations.
"This has been a tough year for the auto industry in Thailand, but Chevrolet is receiving remarkable recognition in growing markets like Indonesia and the Philippines for the value, performance, and design of our cars and trucks. This is a clear demonstration of how Chevrolet listens to our customers to design and build cars they want and need in their markets,” Colossi continued. “Chevrolet has a very strong product line-up across multiple segments in Southeast Asia and we expect a healthy growth rate in the fourth quarter,” Colossi added.
Chevrolet sold 4,813 vehicles in Thailand in September, which included a 26 percent sales jump of the popular Colorado model. The success of the nationwide sales event, ‘Colorado Days,’ helped boost the sales up to 2,424 units. Other models that contributed to a healthy sales performance include the Sonic (1,381), Trailblazer (387 units), Captiva (317 units), Cruze (190 units) and Spin (96 units).
