GM is a Driving Force Behind National MLK Memorial
DETROIT (Nov. 13, 2006) — Since 2000, General Motors has been a proud corporate sponsor of the Washington, DC Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation, Inc., and its effort to build a memorial honoring one of America’s greatest inspirational leaders. After years of planning and fund raising, the ceremonial groundbreaking on the much-anticipated project took place Monday in the nation’s capital.

'Kids for King' Program Launches to Mark Historic March on Washington and 'I Have a Dream' Speech
WASHINGTON D.C. (Aug. 22, 2005) — The Martin Luther King (MLK), Jr. National Memorial Foundation launches the Kids for King…Share your Dream...Build the Dream program today to commemorate the 1963 March on Washington. Youth from first through twelfth grades will be asked to help build a memorial to Dr. King on the National Mall.

September 23, 2004 – Thirty six years after the death of Martin Luther King Jr., the pursuit of an America united by the simple ideals of fairness and justice continues.
King’s powerful message, which transcended political, religious and ethnic beliefs, resonated around the world. He is a hero for millions of people.
That is why so many are working to build a national
Martin Luther King Memorial to stand on the southern
edge of the Mall in Washington, D.C., an area that honors
America’s leaders and ideals. So far, supporters
have raised one-third of the $100 million in private
donations necessary. No government funds have been allocated
for the project, which must break ground by Nov. 12,
2006, to maintain the reservation on the public land.
