Rainbow PUSH Honors GM's Andersson for Contributions to Equity and Diversity in Auto Industry

CHICAGO/DETROIT (June 6, 2007) — Rainbow PUSH today announced that Bo Andersson, GM group vice president, Global Purchasing and Supply Chain (GPSC), is the first recipient of Rainbow PUSH's "Trade Advocate Award."
The announcement was made at the annual conference of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition and the Citizenship Education Fund in Chicago. The award was presented by the Rev. Jesse Jackson, Rainbow PUSH founder and president, in recognition of Andersson's efforts in assisting minority suppliers and his contributions to equity and diversity in the automotive industry.
"As the automotive industry goes through changes and supplier diversity efforts have come under attack, GM continues to lead the way in its outreach and commitment to diversity," Rev. Jackson said. "GM understands that access and opportunity are key to its growth."
Rainbow PUSH and GM are working cooperatively to proactively address issues faced by minority companies and create growth opportunities for GM's high performing diversity suppliers.
Glenda Gill, Rainbow PUSH executive director of the automotive and entertainment projects in Los Angeles, said: "Mr. Andersson exemplifies the characteristics of a true leader. He has done an exceptional job when it comes to addressing the challenges facing vendors of color.
It is because of his diligence and hard work that we applaud and honor him."
As the first in the auto industry to have a supplier diversity program, GM has worked to bring greater capability and economic opportunities to minority businesses for almost 40 years, spending over $62 billion with minority suppliers during that period.
As part of GM's Supplier Diversity Program, GPSC executive leadership mentors 33 of its top Tier 1 minority suppliers.
"I am honored to accept this award on behalf of GM and all the employees that make it a great organization that I'm proud to be part of," Andersson said. "Our diversity suppliers are an integral part of GM's supply base and equally important to the North American tapestry."
