General Motors Foundation Donates $70,000 to United Negro College Fund to Assist Deserving Students

DETROIT (March 4, 2010) –DETROIT – The GM Foundation today announced two donations to United Negro College Fund (UNCF) totaling $70,000 – $50,000 for UNCF’s Campaign for Emergency Student Aid and $20,000 toward scholarship and operating support for UNCF.

The Campaign for Emergency Student Aid, known as CESA, provides emergency assistance especially to seniors who have exhausted other options for financial assistance and are at risk of not being able to complete their coursework. Launched in 2009, CESA has provided assistance to nearly 2,000 students at UNCF schools, enabling these students to complete their college studies and graduate.

GM launches plant-city tour to showcase line-up, empower employees to promote new vehicles

DETROIT (March 4, 2010) – General Motors announced today a program called the GM Vehicle Plant Tour that encourages employees across North America to help drive awareness and sales in their communities for GM’s latest vehicles.

The GM Vehicle Plant Tour, launched this week, will give employees at 40 North American manufacturing facilities the first-hand experience and knowledge they need to become active spokespeople for the newest models from Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac.

Explorer Scouts Enter Special 2010 Camaro in Autorama

DETROIT (Feb. 26, 2010) - The UAW Local 160/GM Tech Center Explorer Scouts posts have created a gold, black and red 2010 Chevrolet Camaro for entry in the 2010 Detroit Autorama Hot Rod Show at Cobo Hall.

March of Dimes National Ambassador Visits Lordstown Complex

LORDSTOWN (Feb. 23, 2010) - “I liked the red cars,” Joshua Hoffman said when asked about his tour of the Lordstown Assembly Complex.

Joshua is the seven year old National Ambassador for the 2010 March of Dimes Campaign. He and his family visited Lordstown Complex and were impressed with the plant and moved by the people. Melanie Hoffman, Joshua’s mother, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the visit. “The cars and the complex are very impressive but we are most impressed with the friendly people at Lordstown. We cannot thank them enough for their warm welcome and hospitality,” Melanie said.

NEW ORLEANS (Feb. 23, 2010) - Hurricane Katrina hit the southern coast of the U.S. with devastating effect on Aug. 29, 2005, and more than 1,800 people lost their lives and more than $81 billion dollars in damage occurred. As a result, efforts to assist those affected by hurricane Katrina continue.

GM Grassroots Efforts at USC

LOS ANGELES (Feb. 23, 2010) - The Western Region reached out to students in a fun way by hosting a two-night “Drive Thru Finals with Chevy” grassroots event at University of Southern California. For both nights between 8 p.m. and 1 a.m., a total of 551 students stepped into Chevy vehicles for a downtown Los Angeles drive to Carl’s Jr. Star Diner (compliments of Chevy) and picked up late-night food – helping students get through finals.

PACE Program Wins ASEE/CMC Highest Award: Excellence in Engineering Education Collaboration Award

DETROIT (Feb. 5, 2010) - The American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) / Corporate Member Council (CMC) announced that PACE (Partners for the Advancement of Engineering Education) is the recipient of the 2010 Corporate Member Council Excellence in Engineering Collaboration award. This award recognizes CMC members that demonstrate collaboration with colleges, universities and impact engineering education and heighten the interest of young people in engineering. The award was presented to PACE partners during the ASEE 2010 Conference for Industry & Education Collaboration.

General Motors Foundation, William J. Clinton Foundation to Deliver 30 GMC Trucks, Supplies, to Haiti

DETROIT (Feb. 3, 2010) – The General Motors Foundation is donating 30 GMC trucks to the Haitian relief effort to assist victims and aid workers in the aftermath of the January 12 earthquake that struck the Caribbean nation, following President Bill Clinton’s recent public call for vehicles to support recovery efforts. Two of the trucks will arrive in Miami on February 3 and will be present at the NFL Little Haiti Outreach Event held at the Sant La Haitian Neighborhood Center, 5000 Biscayne Blvd., Miami, FL at 4:00 p.m. EST. NFL players will receive a tour of the Center and will reach out to sponsors and collect relevant donations for the Little Haiti community.
