GM's Web-Based Course Provides Comprehensive Training for Drivers of Large Vans

DETROIT (May 8, 2008) — General Motors continues to make training available for its large van consumers.  For several years, Coaching Systems® LLC, which designed a unique course for GM large van consumers, has teamed up with GM to offer training at a 40 percent discount to GM's large van consumers.  This training is designed to reinforce information that may be helpful for drivers of large vans.

Safe Kids USA Plans Nearly 500 Child Passenger Safety Events During May

Safe Kids Buckle Up Offers Families Hands-on Educational Activities to Increase Knowledge about Safety In and Around Vehicles

WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 5, 2008) — Safe Kids USA's local coalitions will conduct nearly 500 child passenger safety events in locations across the country during the month of May. Events will be held in nearly all 50 states, at locations including Chevrolet and other GM dealerships, fire stations, hospitals, retail stores, and insurance offices.

Booster Seat Law Coverage Expands

DETROIT (May 5, 2008) — Forty-two states and the District of Columbia now have some form of a restraint law to properly protect older child passengers in a child safety seat, according to Safe Kids Worldwide (SKW), GM's partner in the Safe Kids Buckle Up program. This year, upgraded child passenger safety laws - widely known as booster seats laws - have been approved in Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan and Utah. The Michigan law, which takes effect July 1, requires the use of approved booster seats for children ages 4-7 and less than four feet nine inches tall.

Congressman Joins Chevy Dealer Child Safety Event

San Antonio, Texas (April 23, 2008) — The local Congressman, a San Antonio dealer and safety advocates joined together on Saturday, April 19 to educate approximately 100 Cub Scouts, their pack leaders and parents on child passenger safety. The event, part of the Automotive Safety Patch program that is a new element of Safe Kids Buckle Up, GM's program with Safe Kids Worldwide, was held at Ancira Winton Chevrolet in San Antonio.

GM Sponsored Program Addresses Non-Crash Child Safety.

DETROIT, Mich (March 10, 2008) — New child safety legislation signed into law last week by U.S. President Bush calls for a national public education program to reduce non-traffic deaths and injuries to children. GM’s partner, Safe Kids Worldwide (SKW), already offers vehicle safety programs beyond car seats and crash protection through the Safe Kids Buckle Up programs.

Helping Drivers Keep an Eye on Safety

DETROIT (November 1, 2007) — Saab’s Driver Attention Warning System is a development project designed to counter two of the most common causes of road accidents: driver drowsiness and inattention at the wheel. It alerts the driver by using a combination of text and voice messages, or vibrations in the seat cushion, as soon as the risk of drowsiness or inattention is detected.

GM and OnStar Create Technology to Help Save Lives

New capability to assist OnStar subscribers and public safety officials in stolen vehicle cases

WASHINGTON D.C. (October 9, 2007) — General Motors (GM) and OnStar demonstrated today a prototype technology that can help OnStar further assist in the safe recovery of subscribers’ stolen vehicles and reduce fatalities and injuries resulting from police chases. This new technology, known as Stolen Vehicle Slowdown, is the latest enhancement to OnStar’s stolen vehicle service and can allow OnStar advisors working with law enforcement to send a signal to a subscriber’s stolen vehicle to reduce engine power slowing the vehicle down gradually.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (September 26, 2007) — General Motors, OnStar and the University of Michigan Medical School are working together to collect crash and injury data that could lead to engineering safer cars and trucks and getting the right kind of help to a crash scene.
