GM supports "Click It or Ticket"

DETROIT (May 14, 2008) — GM supports the annual Click It or Ticket seat belt use campaign which will run from May 19 until June 1, according to Beth Lowery, GM Vice President for Environment, Energy and Safety Policy.

Past campaigns have helped to increase the national belt use rate to more than 82 percent, the highest rate ever, Lowery said. "But this means that nearly one in five still is not regularly using this live-saving equipment."

"The fact that several states, including Michigan, have achieved belt use rates well above 90 percent shows that we can do better nationally", Lowery added. "We commend the national, state and local agencies - particularly law enforcement - which are leading this effort".

OnStar is again assisting the campaign, with advisers reminding callers to use safety belts.
