Cub Scouts Automotive Safety Patch Program

FONTANA, Calif. (March 1, 2008) — Congressman Joe Baca (D., CA), Chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, joined Safe Kids Inland Empire for a Cub Scouts vehicle safety awareness event on Saturday, February 23 at Rotolo Chevrolet in Fontana, California.
The Cub Scouts Automotive Safety Patch program is a component of Safe Kids Buckle Up, the comprehensive child safety program created in 1997 by GM and Safe Kids Worldwide. Chevrolet became the lead brand sponsor of the program in 2004.
In order to earn the automotive safety patch program, Scouts complete five interactive stations, covering several aspects of safety such as proper belt/booster seat use, teaching families to never leave a child alone in a vehicle and how to interact with OnStar in the event on an emergency.

Congressman Baca awarded safety patches to Scouts after they completed all of the activities. "By applying the lessons learned today, these children can set an important example in keeping their friends and neighbors safe", the Congressman said. "This has the potential to truly save lives".
Safe Kids Buckle Up teaches families to keep children safer in and around vehicles through educational activities, car seat checkup events and community outreach programs such as the Cub Scouts partnership. Nearly one million child seats have been checked for proper installation during the life of the program.
