General Motors entered the Slovak market in January 1991 with the establishment of the company General Motors Czechoslovakia, the first official importer of foreign cars into Slovakia. In April 2005 the representative office was transformed to a branch office of GM Southeast Europe, which took over all of the duties of the national office representing the Opel and Chevrolet brands in Slovakia. The customers can also purchase Saab models at selected dealerships. In 2008 GM represented 5.5% of the total Slovakian market.
