Sweden - History

Sweden

GM has been doing business in Sweden for approximately 80 years. In 1927 General Motors Nordiska AB was founded and an assembly plant in Stockholm was assembling US- and Opel-cars from 1927 until 1956. Opel was introduced in 1931.

Saab production in Trollhättan commenced in 1949. General Motors acquired 50 percent of Saab Automobile AB, in 1989 when Saab Automobile AB was established as an independent company, following a joint venture agreement with Saab-Scania AB. Since January 2000, Saab Automobile AB is fully owned by GM.

In June 2004 GM Nordic was established. This company has the responsibility for the sales and aftersales of Chevrolet, Opel and Saab cars in the four Nordic markets.
