General Motors Suisse SA was founded in the city of Biel in 1935.
The first vehicle came off the assembly line in 1936. In 1975, manufacturing in Biel was discontinued.
The company was renamed to Opel Suisse SA in 1994. It was merged with Saab Automobile Schweiz AG in 2004, which entailed changing back the name to General Motors Suisse SA and headquarters being moved from Biel to Glattbrugg near Zurich.
GM Europe has been headquartered in Glattbrugg/Zurich since 1986.
