General Motors and Weekly Reader Release Classroom Curriculum on Energy and Environment Issues

New activities examine 100 years of evolving technology

DETROIT, MI (September 11, 2008) — General Motors and Weekly Reader are distributing an updated version of their middle school classroom curriculum, “The Energy Highway – Solutions Ahead,” which aims to help students understand the energy challenges facing society today and some of the potential solutions to those challenges. To commemorate GM’s 100th anniversary, this year’s curriculum also features a new poster insert that explores noteworthy technologies of the last century as well as a look at future automotive technologies.

Forty educators nationwide awarded $1,000 to implement inventive classroom lesson on sustainability

SILVER SPRING, MD. (August 25, 2008) — General Motors and Discovery Education are pleased to announce the forty winners of the 2008 LIVE GREEN Teacher Grants. Each of the forty winning middle or junior high school educators will receive a $1,000 grant to implement new, inventive classroom lessons on the environment or renewable energy initiatives.

Eco-Friendly Shows Featuring a Buick, Pontiac and GMC Fun-Filled Tropical Laboratory & Rainforest Pavilion, and a Chevy Alternative Fuel Magical Biodome

DETROIT. (August 14, 2008) — When the doors open on Big Fun at the Cal State Fair August 15 through September 1, a new eco-friendly show for kids of all ages will be presented in the Buick-Pontiac-GMC Rainforest Pavilion. Hosted by a “zany professor,” the edu-tainment experience will engage fair-goers with interactive fun while also educating about alternative fuels and how to be more eco-friendly in day-to-day life.

Smarter Girls Day Camp

FLINT, MICH. (August 2008) — The Day Camp teaches Flint-area girls that they can be smarter in science and math and pursue engineering careers. Smarter Girls Day Camp, organized by General Motors Affinity Group for Women member Marci McGuire, held two sessions at Kettering University in Flint, MI from July 19 to 20, 2008 and July 26 to 27, 2008. The camp hosted nearly three dozen 9 to 12 year old girls.
