During a Collision

Because air bags are too important for "one size fits all."

Advanced Air Bag Technology

Dual-Depth Air Bag - a GM innovation.
The dual-depth passenger-side frontal air bag customizes restraint levels by deploying in different sizes and at different pressures, depending on seat position, safety belt usage, and crash severity.

Advanced Air Bags
Available in most GM vehicles, Advanced Air Bags employ a Passenger Sensing System that may turn off the front passenger air bag to help reduce the potential for inflation-induced injuries or fatalities to smaller occupants who may be seated improperly in front of an air bag.*

Side-Impact Air Bags - GM was the first to offer child-friendly side-impact air bags.

Head Curtain Air Bag - Available in some GM vehicles, the head curtain air bag deploys in the event of a rollover, for front and rear seating positions.

Structural Safety Features

Safety Cage Energy Management System
The safety cage structure surrounds the driver and passengers and is designed to absorb and channel crash energy in order to help preserve occupant space in a crash.

Crush Zones
Crush zones at the front and rear of GM vehicles are designed to collapse on impact, allowing them to absorb energy and keep the safety cage intact.

* Even with the Passenger Sensing System, GM recommends that children be properly secured in a rear seat. Air bags deploy with great force, faster than the blink of an eye. Anyone who is up against or very close to an air bag when it deploys can be seriously injured or killed. Always use safety belts or proper child safety seats and booster seats – for everyone, every trip, every time.

  • Interior Safety Features

    • Passenger Sensing System
GM's Passenger Sensing System is designed to help reduce the potential for inflation-induced injuries or fatalities to smaller occupants.

    • Energy Absorbing Steering System
GM's energy-absorbing steering column is designed to compress at a force less than that which causes significant rib fracture in most people, helping to reduce accident injuries.
