An Employer of Choice for Veterans

Supporting U.S. military families for more than 100 years

Veterans discuss support they feel as General Motors employees.
In 2016, GM was the only automaker named a Military Times “Best for Vets” employer. GM was also named a G.I. Jobs Military Friendly employer, Military Spouse Friendly employer and a Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA) Gold Certified Veteran-Friendly employer.

But this support is nothing new. It began in 1917, when 90 percent of GM’s truck production was directed toward WWI manufacturing. During WWII, GM converted all its plant facilities in support of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s call for an “Arsenal of Democracy,” and has produced more U.S. military vehicles than any manufacturer in history.

Today, more than 14,000 veterans work at GM facilities across the U.S., and the company remains committed to hiring and helping military families.
