General Motors has earned a spot as one of DiversityInc Magazine’s 2016 Top 50 Companies for Diversity. Over the past few years, GM has aggressively ramped up its diversity strategy and implemented programs and initiatives that not only encourages diversity of thought, but creates an atmosphere of inclusion throughout its organization.

That’s why embracing diversity and inclusion is a business priority for today’s General Motors,” said Mary Barra, GM Chairman and CEO. “Finding and growing the best and brightest talent from around the world and capitalizing on new and emerging markets are critical to maintaining GM’s position as a global leader.”
DiversityInc’s annual survey tracks hiring, the retention and promotion of women, minorities, people with disabilities, LGBT individuals and veterans. It’s the most rigorous, data-driven survey of its kind that gauges detailed demographics based on race/ethnicity and gender for some of the largest U.S. employers.
“It’s clear that GM understands how diversity and inclusion strengthens everything from recruiting and retention to overall business success,” said Luke Visconti, DiversityInc’s founder and CEO. “We saw more than 1,000 companies submitting for contention on the list. It’s a sign of their commitment and dedication to diversity management.”
Each company’s rank is based on an analysis of 183 factors taken from a 300-question survey. The four equally weighted areas of measurement are talent pipeline, equitable talent development, CEO/leadership commitment and supplier diversity.
Black Enterprise, the Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index, Latina Style, Military Spouse and Military Times have also recently recognized GM as an employer of excellence for diverse candidates.
