Encore Helps Buick Post Best October Since 2003

Retail sales up 4 percent year over year; total sales increase 8 percent

DETROIT – Powered by sales of the Encore compact SUV, Buick reported its best October sales results since 2003. With nearly 51 percent of its buyers new to the brand, the Encore is at the forefront of Buick’s growth. Compared to last year, Buick’s retail sales increased 4 percent year over year, while total sales increased 8 percent.

Encore total sales increased 33 percent year over year in October, while total sales so far in 2014 are up 55 percent. October also marked the Encore’s tenth consecutive month of retail sales increases, as sales to individual customers rose 35 percent compared to last October.

Customers surveyed indicate they chose Encore for its combination of fuel economy, comfort and quality. The latter point was emphasized in a leading industry study of initial vehicle reliability, wherein Buick was the only domestic automaker to score within the Top 10.

Those attributes resonated with Chelsea Fallier, regional coordinator for the Epilepsy Foundation of Central/Western Pennsylvania, who recently took delivery of a new Encore.

“I was looking for a vehicle with all-wheel drive but still returned great gas mileage,” said Fallier. “The Encore delivers both, and does so with unique style. It looks sleek and fresh. You don’t see other vehicles in this class that can match the style or sophistication of the Encore.”

The Encore isn’t the only crossover to attract customers to Buick showrooms. Retail sales for the larger Enclave model totaled 4,500 vehicles last month, marking the fourth consecutive month of retail sales gains.

Combined, the Encore and Enclave accounted for 55 percent of Buick’s retail sales last month.
