Following are answers to some frequently asked questions on your GM crossover. Please see your vehicle's owners manual for detailed operation on any of these systems.
Features and Controls Displays - Dome/map lamp
1. How can I keep the dome lamps turned off when a door is opened?
Your vehicle is equipped with a dome lamp override button. It is used to set the dome lamps to come on automatically or have them remain off when a door is opened.
The dome lamp override button is located next to the exterior lamps control and above the instrument panel brightness control knob. The icon looks like a dome lamp with a slash mark going through it.
Press the dome lamp override button and the dome lamps remain off when a door is opened.
Press the button again to return it to the extended position to have the dome lamps come on when a door is opened.
Nav related
1. My display doesn't work unless I am stopped. Why?
There are two areas where the NAV screen will not function with the vehicle in drive:
a. The display will not show a DVD movie unless the vehicle is stopped and in PARK.
b. Some functions (such as entering addresses, scrolling menus that are few levels deep, etc) do not work unless the vehicle is stopped and in PARK.
The items listed above are safety requirements.
2. Many roads are not displayed on my map...my friend's Garmin system shows them, why can't I get them on my GM system?
The GM and Garmin systems have the same map data provider, NAVTEQ. Yearly updates from both GM and Garmin are available on DVD disc, and should be comparable, model year to model year.
3. The estimated time is not accurate, why can't I input my speed on different types of roads?
The initial estimated time is calculated based on posted road speeds (freeway: 65mph, main street: 50mph, and residential: 35mph). If a customer regularly drives above the posted speeds, the time may appear inaccurate to him/her. As the customer drives to the final destination, the estimated time is continually updated based on GPS data and the remaining posted road speeds.
Wind Buffetting Noise
1. My vehicle makes a buffetting noise with the rear windows open...why and what can I do?
Air flow over an open rear window is like blowing over a coke bottle, but because the passenger compartment volume is large, the tone generated is a low frequency 'noise' or buffeting. Cracking a front window changes the pressure in the passenger compartment and disturbs the flow, so the noise is minimized.
Transmission
1. My vehicle seems to be hunting for gears and shifting a lot, is that normal?
Because your vehicle has a 6 speed transmission, you can expect more shifting than a 4 speed. This shifting provides both better performance and fuel economy. If you would like to further control your shifting, use the transmission shifter to select a lower drive range. The range selected will be the top-gear limit (e.g. D5 limits the transmission to 5th gear maximum). You can do this by putting the transmission shifter into "L" and then using the "+" and "-" button on the side of the shifter to select a different drive range.
Remote Start
1. I can't get my car to remote start. What do I need to do?
Make sure that you press and release the lock button on the key fob first, then immediately press and hold the Remote start button on the key fob for approximately three seconds. The vehicle should start. If not, make sure you are within 180 ft. of your vehicle and try again. If your vehicle still does not remote start, then check for conditions in owners manual that would prevent a remote start from occurring.
2. My car won't remote start unless I am close to it, is this normal?
Normal remote start range may be up to 180 feet. In some instances, remote start range can be influenced by vehicle location , proximity to buildings/other vehicles or proximity to radio stations.

1. I don't understand the cruise control button functions.
SET-: Press this button to set the speed. The indicator light in the cluster will come on (Looks like a speedometer).
Once in cruise control mode this button can also be used to decrease speed or make the vehicle decelerate.
+ RES (Resume/Accelerate): Press this button to resume to a previously set speed. The indicator light in the cluster will come on. Once in cruise control mode this button can also be used to increase speed.

When setting cruise control
1. Press the cruise control on/off button.
2. Get up to the speed desired.
3. Press and release the SET- button, and a green speedometer symbol will appear in the cluster telling you the cruise is engaged
4. Take your foot off the accelerator.
5. To turn the cruise control off, press the cruise control on/off button, or gently tap the brakes.
Further instructions can be found in section 3 of the owners manual.
Rear Wiper Control
1. I can't find the button for the rear wiper. It used to be on the steering column, where is it?
The rear wiper and rear wash button is located on the instrument panel below the climate control system.
Further instructions can be found in section 3 of the owners manual.
Hot Shot
1. I pushed my "hot shot" button and nothing happened?
If your vehicle is equipped with this feature, after pressing the Heated washer switch on the left side of the instrument panel to spray heated washer fluid on the windshield the display instrument cluster should read "Heated Wash Active Wash/Wipes Pending".
At the end of the fourth activation the unit should automatically turn off and the DIC should read "Heated Wash System Off". You can turn system off at any time during these cycles by pressing the Heated Wash switch again.
2. Just before my "hot shot" works, a lot of fluid dribbles out onto the hood. Is this normal?
This dribble of fluid is called pre-spray and it is normal. Pre-spray is caused by expansion of the fluid as it is being heated and pushed out of the nozzles.
3. "Hot Shot" seems to use a lot of fluid. Can I shut it off if my window is clean?
Yes. If the Heated washer switch is pressed at any time prior to the completion of the four spray cycles the unit will turn off and the display instrument cluster will read "Heated Wash System Off"
4. I got a message that says "fluid heating". What does that mean?
This message conveys to customers that the heated wash system is currently turned on heating the washer fluid and they will see an approximately 40 second delay in operation of the first cycle, after which the wipers will automatically turn on and spray fluid. This process is repeated three more times with approximately 10 second intervals between each spray. This delay is in place to allow the heated washer fluid unit the time needed to warm the washer fluid to the appropriate temperature to assist in clearing ice or bugs from the windshield.
Front Seat
1. I thought I had manual front seat back recliners but all the seat does is go up and down.
Your seat back does recline! The recliner handle is on the side of the seat, near the rear of the side trim. Simply put your hand on the side of the seat between the seat and door, and slide your hand rearward until you find the handle. Pull the handle up to adjust the seat back.
2. What does the knob on the inside of the front seat do?
The knob on the side of the seat is the control for your adjustable lumbar, or lower back, support. Rotating the knob will change the shape of the lower part of the seat back. Simply adjust the lumbar support so that you are most comfortable.
Second Row Seats
1. How do I get into the third row?
Getting into the rear seat is easy! When you open the rear door of the truck, you will see a large handle on the side of the seat back, close to the top. This is the handle that makes the "Smart Slide" system work. Simply push the handle forward to release the seat. When the handle is pushed toward the front, the seat back will tilt forward and the seat cushion will pop up. Once the seat tilts forward, push the seat back toward the front of the truck until it is out of your way. To put the seat back to its regular position, simply push or pull the seatback toward the rear of the truck until it locks in position, and then push down on the cushion to lock it back in place.
2. What happens to all the stuff that falls into the tracks?
The exclusive Smart-Slide seat is designed to keep dirt and other things that may get into the seat tracks from causing problems. The seat mechanism includes a set of mini "brooms" that sweep contamination away from the important parts of the track system. If necessary, the seat tracks can be vacuumed out with a narrow vacuum cleaner nozzle.
3. How do I adjust the seats fore-aft?
When you open the rear door and look at the side of the seat, you will see a handle that is just below the seat bottom cushion, on the plastic side trim. To adjust the seat forward and back, simply sit in the seat and reach down to the side of the seat to locate this handle. Grab the edge of the handle and move it up. Then slide the seat forward or backward. When the seat is where you want it to be, let the handle back down to its normal position to lock the seat in place.
4. How do I fold flat?
To make the seats fold down so that you can load larger items into the rear area, first open the rear door. On the side of the seat you will see a strap which goes into an opening in the side of the seat back. Pull this strap toward you, and the seat back will fold down. If the front seat is too far back, you may need to move it forward a little to let the rear seat go all the way down to the flat position. This is the same strap that you pull while sitting in the seat to make the seat back recline.
If you want to lower the third row seat as well, open the rear liftgate, and lift up the release handle that is on the seat back. When the handle is raised, push the seat back forward into the flap position. You can lower either one or both seat backs, depending on what kind of cargo you need to carry, When you want to raise the third row seat back up, simply grab the strap on the back of the seat and pull it to the upright position.
Memory Seats
1. Why do the seats move by themselves when I shut the car off?
Either you or your dealer has programmed the easy exit option through the Driver Information Center (DIC). This will automatically move the seat rearward to allow you easier exit from the vehicle. Your vehicle as shipped from the assembly plant had this function turned off.
2. How do I set the memory for the seats?
After enabling this function through the DIC, the memory seat positions can be programmed. You can set two positions corresponding to key fobs 1 or 2. With the vehicle in PARK, move the driver's seat to a desired position. Press and hold either the memory 1 or 2 button on the driver's door. You will receive a confirmation tone after your setting is remembered. Your seat will move to the desired position based on your key fob when using the unlock button on the key fob or by pressing the Memory 1 or 2 button.
HVAC
1. My AC blows cold air on high even when it's not very hot outside. Is this normal?
Yes this is normal. You can adjust the temperature set point up to a higher temperature to minimize the cold air.
2. The front air is blowing cold and the rear air is blowing hot (or vice versa), how can I make them the same?
The quickest way to do this is to press the AUX button on the front console to turn the rear air off, and then back on. The system will start back up in "mimic" mode (same temp in front and rear).
3. The rear air control indicates 0 to 12, what does that mean?
0-12 is a unitless scale. It indicates "warmer or cooler" from the air temperature currently coming from the rear vents. If you want warmer air move up towards 12, if you want cooler air move down towards 0.
4. How do I turn the rear air off?
Push the AUX button on the front HVAC controls. If the light is off, the rear HVAC system is off. If the AUX light is on, then the rear HVAC system is on.
POS
1. My daughter who weighs about 100 lbs sometimes turns the passenger airbag on and sometimes not. Is something wrong with the system?
No - nothing is wrong with the system. If the passenger airbag light does not come on when she sits in the seat, she is not "properly" sitting in the seat. The Passenger Airbag Sensing system measures the dimension and weight of the object sitting in the seat. It is calibrated to tell the difference between an object - like a purse or grocery bag, and a person. If your daughter does not "correctly" sit in seat, the system may not recognize her as a person in the seat. Due to your daughters light weight, it is important for her to sit correctly in the seat while the system is determining the size and shape of the thing in the seat. Make sure she sits firmly in the bottom of the seat with her buttocks and thighs on seat cushion bottom. The system may take up to 40 seconds to recognize her in the seat. As soon as the passenger airbag light comes on - the system is ready and knows a person is in the seat. Once the passenger airbag light comes on - it will stay on until you turn the vehicle off.
It is important that everyone wear a seatbelt properly. The Airbag is a "supplemental system" and the seatbelt helps keep you in proper position in the event of a crash. You should also not sit too close to an airbag as you could suffer severe injury or death if an airbag deploys in very close proximity.
Battery Access
1. Where is the battery located?
The battery is located under the floor behind the front passenger seat. There is a carpet covered access door which should be under the second row floor mat.
2. How do I jump the car if the battery is under the rear seats?
Even though the battery is located behind the passenger seat under the load floor, there are remote jump start terminals located in the engine compartment. The positive terminal is located under the red protective cover on the right side of the engine. There is a negative ground stud to be used for jump start purposes located on the right side of vehicle below the cowl (where the hood hinge is located). Follow all normal procedures for jump starting a vehicle. The procedure is detailed in the owners manual.
Rear Sunroof Sunshade
1. How do I open the sunshade for the 2nd row skylight?
The rear sunshade can only be opened or closed with a switch located in the front overhead console. Attempting to move the sunshade manually by pulling on the shade will damage the shade.
Rear Liftgate Function
1. Sometimes my power liftgate doesn't work when I open with my RKE, is there a problem?
If the Power Liftgate does not work when the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) is pressed, check to make sure that the Power Liftgate Switch located on the center console, under the radio, is not switched to the "OFF" position (See Owners Manual). When the switch is in the "OFF" position the liftgate works as a manual liftgate. If the RKE button is pushed to open the liftgate while the switch is in the "Off" position, the lights will flash one time, but the liftgate will not move.
TIP: When using the RKE to operate the Power Liftgate, hold the button for 1 second.
Other Helpful Hints
- Audio Entertainment - XM
Your vehicle comes with a three month subscription to XM Satellite radio. If you lose your satellite radio reception or have trouble with sound fading in and out, it may be due to driving under bridges, tunnels or overhangs, driving near tall buildings or hills, or in enclosed buildings. The radio might display, "NO XM SIGNAL" to indicate signal interference.
- Audio Entertainment - DVD
Did you know that when you have a DVD playing you can listen to the radio by having the rear passengers switch to headphones?
- Audio Entertainment - DVD
Did you know if you have difficulty ejecting a DVD or CD, holding the eject button down for 5 seconds will eject the CD/DVD out of your player.
- Features and Control Displays - Remote keyless entry system
If your vehicle is equipped with Remote Keyless Entry (RKE), you can start the vehicle by the following procedure:
1. Aim the transmitter at the vehicle.
2. Press and release the transmitter's lock button, then immediately press and hold the transmitter's remote start button until the turn signal lights flash. If you cannot see the vehicle's lights, press and hold the remote start button for at least four seconds. Pressing the remote start button again, after the vehicle has started, will turn off the ignition.
3. The effective range of your transmitter may be reduced by objects between you and your vehicle such as other vehicles, or by environmental conditions such as rain or snow.
