FUNDING OPPORTUNITY

Stars, Stripes & Skilled Trades

General Motors invites eligible 501(c)(3) organizations to submit grant proposals for Stars, Stripes & Skilled Trades, a workforce development initiative to support transitioning service members, veterans, and their families to pursue automotive careers in manufacturing and the skilled trades.

Applications open August 21, 2026, and close September 30, 2026. Funding decisions will be announced this fall. 

We're looking for existing initiatives that:

  • Serve career-transitioning service members, veterans, and military-connected family members
  • Provide industry-recognized training, certifications, or credentials
  • Connect participants to mentorships, quality jobs, and long-term career pathways in manufacturing, automotive technician roles, or skilled trades

GM Cares, our global employee giving program, empowers employees to support causes they care about through volunteerism and charitable donations. Since 2011, employees have contributed more than 1.3 million volunteer hours and more than $16.3 million in direct donations to nonprofits through GM Cares, creating lasting impact in communities around the world.

General Motors accepts grant applications by invitation throughout the year. We do not accept unsolicited funding requests. Invitations are extended to nonprofit organizations based on alignment with our social impact pillars and funding priorities.
