Senior Vice President, Global Export and Retail Innovation

Steve J. Hill was appointed GM Senior Vice President Global Export and Retail Innovation, effective December 1, 2025. In this newly created role, he has a mandate to accelerate exports by leveraging GM’s global manufacturing footprint, strong brands and local distribution channels.

Prior to this appointment, Steve served as Senior Vice President and President, GM China, where he was based in Shanghai and oversaw all of GM’s operations in China. Under his leadership, GM China delivered a successful business turnaround, with the business posting positive equity income for four consecutive quarters and increasing market share in 2025.

Before leading GM China, Steve was Vice President, Global Commercial Operations, where he led cross-brand activities that strengthened GM’s brands and position in the U.S. He also helped with the assessment and commercialization of future business opportunities that support GM’s revenue growth commitments.

Steve began his career with General Motors in 1983 as a District Sales Manager at Cadillac Motor Car Division.

Throughout his career, he has held numerous sales and marketing positions of increasing responsibility for GM. These roles include:

  • U.S. Vice President of Chevrolet and GM Fleet
  • Vice President of U.S. Sales, Service and Marketing for Chevrolet, Buick, GMC brands as well as Fleet & Commercial Operations and Sales & Marketing Retail Support
  • Vice President of Customer Care and Aftersales
  • Vice President of Cadillac, U.S. Sales, Service & Marketing
  • General Manager of Retail Sales Programs
  • Regional Director of North Central Region
  • Executive Director of Retail Planning and CRM Marketing, Dealer Network and Sales Promotion, with extensive field experience

Steve holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Michigan State University and an MBA from Wayne State University. He has also completed Executive Development Programs at Harvard, Wharton, and Stanford Universities.

Steve has also served as the Executive Champion of the Veterans Group of General Motors for more than a decade. The group is focused on recruiting veterans, promoting General Motors vehicles, and raising millions of dollars for charities that support wounded veterans.
