Jose Tomas is senior vice president, GM Global Human Resources, a position he has held since July 2017. Tomas reports to Mary Barra, GM Chairman and CEO, and serves as a member of GM’s senior leadership team.
Tomas joined GM after building more than 20 years of strong human resource experience in leadership positions in the healthcare, food service, retail grocery, and transportation and logistics industries. Most recently, Tomas served as the executive vice president and chief human resources officer for Anthem, Inc., one of the leading health benefits companies in the United States, where he led the company’s human resources, corporate communications and security teams.
Prior to his time at Anthem, Tomas served as the global chief people officer for the Burger King Corporation, where he was accountable for the human resources, communications and security functions. In addition, Tomas was concurrently the president of Burger King’s Latin American and Caribbean operations, where he was fully responsible for the region’s P&L, overseeing marketing, supply chain, restaurant operations and development. Previously, Tomas held human resources roles at Ryder System, and human resources and operations positions at Publix Super Markets.
Tomas received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Management degree and a Master of Science degree in Human Resource Management from Florida International University. Tomas currently serves as a board member for the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). He holds a SHRM-SCP (Senior Certified Professional) certification and is a National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) Fellow.
